"Data Systems' broad
capabilities and sensitivity to our needs earned our trust from the beginning
and has led to a long term, satisfying partnership. We now rely on Data
Systems for ALL of our computer support needs... They're like having our own MIS
department without the overhead."
Ron Cole, Controller
Eureka Water Company
As one of the largest suppliers of Ozarka drinking water, this long-term client's primary need is for accounting software, but they also have unique requirements that are not a good fit for off-the-shelf systems. The answer was a combination of off-the-shelf and custom components integrated into a seamless solution.
Data Systems first implemented an off-the-shelf accounting system to act as the core data source. We provided minimal customization of the accounting system to provide custom reporting and data manipulation. All of this was done with off-the-shelf components to minimize start up costs.
Then, after determining that Eureka's needs were indeed being met by the new accounting system, we turned our focus to the processes involved. As is almost always the case with off-the-shelf software, the processes were labor-intensive. Data Systems evaluated how to save the company from having to offset its continued growth with a substantial increase in office staff and computer hardware.
The solution was to integrate a variety of small applications, directly with the core accounting data. These applications streamlined data entry tasks and provided capabilities beyond those available from the off-the-shelf accounting system. This greatly reduced manpower requirements, which allowed Eureka to grow with no increase in indirect costs.
Today, if it's got a keyboard and it's at
Eureka, we handle it. Eureka Water is the example of what can
happen with Data Systems on your team. Eureka has enjoyed phenomenal growth in revenue during the time they have worked with Data Systems. While we can't take credit for that, we can take credit for the fact that their indirect staff is virtually the same as it was when we started with them. In fact, the minimal growth that they have had in indirect staff has been to accommodate the needs for responding to increased customer phone calls.

"We really appreciate
Data Systems' honesty, integrity and willingness to put our needs and best
interests first. They seem to have figured out that we all win that way.
We're happy... and they're happy. I guess we're what you would call a
satisfied customer."

President
Associated Insurance Agents, Inc.
Associated Insurance Agents, Inc. is one of the
city's premier and oldest insurance agencies. They've been around since
1919 but of course began using computers in their business a bit more recently
than that. AIA uses
off-the-shelf applications designed for the insurance industry so AIA
is primarily a network support client. However, as with most companies,
they were suffering the inefficiencies inherent with canned
applications. No problem. We wrote a bit of quick and inexpensive
code and turned what was a complicated, two day per month process that reported
incorrect data into a simple, five minute process that reports correct data.
You know what else? Jim and AIA thinks the
same way we do. They also believe in quality customer service. That's
why AIA handles Data Systems' insurance needs. Yes! We most
certainly recommend Jim and AIA for your own needs. They are truly a
pleasure to work with.

"Data Systems has lived
up to our expectations in every way. We trust them to provide quality
services at and products at reasonable costs. We know that should an
information technology crisis occur, we can and do count on Data System to
restore our environment quickly and efficiently."
Jim C. Klepper, Esq.,
Attorney at Law
Interstate Trucker, Ltd.
Interstate Trucker, Ltd. is a law firm here in
Oklahoma City, but not your typical law firm. Interstate Trucker's lawyers represent
thousands of clients in 48 states. Because of this, Interstate relies heavily on their computers
and software. To say that Interstate has "mission critical" systems
would be no exaggeration. As Jim says, "When our computers systems
are down, we can't operate." We understand the criticality of these
systems. That's why we're available 24/7 to handle any problem that
arises. But more importantly,
we're working with Interstate to eliminate the possibility of downtime both
through our network support services and custom programming and
consulting. We're also taking advantage of today's technology to provide
Interstate with enhanced capabilities well beyond their current systems.

"When it comes to our
computer systems, we can finally relax. We know we've got all the support
we need to keep things running smoothly. And that is worth a lot in our
business."
Michele Gatewood,
President
Nashert Constructors, Inc.
Recognized as one
of Oklahoma's foremost contractors, Nashert Constructors provides
pre-construction, construction management and general contracting services.
They've been in business since 1938 and pride themselves on delivering highly
competitive, quality construction work. The leadership in the company is now in
its third generation.
Nashert contacted
Data Systems after receiving, shall we say, not so good support from one of our
competitors. We've heard this before of course. As we told Chele
during our initial meeting, we do get tired of living with the bad reputation
our competitors give to the computer support industry. But they sure make
us look good! After
their experiences, the folks at Nashert were a bit skeptical of yet another
computer services firm promising good service. But we showed them what
support really means. They are now another satisfied Data Systems client
that trusts in and relies on our commitment to old fashioned quality service.

"Data Systems' software provided so much more than we thought was possible. They bent over backwards to meet our needs. Amazing! Wonderful!"
Shonda Schulenberg, Claims Manager Foresight, Incorporated
Foresight is the nation's largest provider of value-added programs for the rent-to-own industry. A large part of their requirements is to accommodate member claims processing. Custom systems make sense here because their products are dynamic and can be different for each customer. In this case, we provided the core data that other systems could access.
We inherited a custom system with Foresight. As is often the case, they had contracted with a service that wrote quality programs but fell short in their systems analysis and design services. Quality code is essential to a successful solution, but the system design must meet your needs. This is why we put so much effort into the design before a single line of code is written.
Rather than automatically proposing a full system replacement for Foresight, we first familiarized ourselves with their business in order to truly identify and meet their unique needs. We enhanced the existing system to extend its usable life which improved Foresight's operating efficiency while giving us the time to become a part of the Foresight team.
As Foresight began the switch to Windows, we planned the replacement of the existing system. By working closely with the Foresight staff, we had gained a thorough understanding of the existing system, its limitations and Foresight's goals. We were able to address the additional requirements of improved data validation, a greatly enhanced user interface and modular expansion capabilities.
A common problem with custom software is that errors in data entry are often caught after the fact (or not caught at all). At Data Systems, our goal is to catch the errors before they are errors; as a result, we write tons of code to prevent bad data entry. This is part of the initial design and one more reason why we expend so much effort in the design phase of our clients' projects.
After we completed the coding on this project, we were still available to Foresight, providing on-site support and user training. When glitches were found (it happens) our first priority was to provide error corrections within the same day. In fact, we generally can correct errors within one hour over the phone and even faster when at the client's facility.
Foresight is pleased with the results of their new time saving, cost-effective system. We expertly met their goals of improving data evaluation, enhancing the user interface and offering modular expansion capabilities. And the process isn't complete. As Foresight expands its product offerings, Data Systems continues to offer solutions to keep their operations efficient and cost effective. As always, we continue to provide consulting to identify ways to enhance their products and service.

Contact: Lea Ann Jackson,

"We used to have data about our members in a hodge-podge of places, from Excel spreadsheets and DOS database files to paper documents. With our new DSC database management system, we have all of our data in one place. This lets our different departments speak to our membership with one voice."
Lea Ann Jackson, CFO Oklahoma Bankers Association
As the trade association serving more than 300 financial services institutions, the OBA requires a versatile system that can accommodate its unique data requirements. The association used several independent data sources for their day-to-day tasks, which had to be maintained separately and, thus, were very prone to error, labor-intensive and pretty much guaranteed to never be in agreement.
Data Systems acted first in a systems analysis role. By utilizing our experience with integrated data management systems, we developed a specification that explicitly detailed the OBA's requirements. This allowed for refinement of the design prior to program development. The specification enabled the OBA to solicit bids for development of the system and to be clear when communicating the system requirements.
The OBA was aware of the hardware and network specifications for the proposed system far in advance of any development. This information allowed them to plan for the often-overlooked expenses hardware and network upgrades can cause.
As the system was developed, constant communication between the OBA and Data Systems allowed us to enhance the system beyond that planned for in the specification. The result? A more capable system than originally specified, often at no additional cost.
Because of the modular nature of the Data Systems design, it was possible to implement the new system in phases. This allowed the OBA to take advantage of the new capabilities as quickly as possible and reduced the learning curve associated with any change. They could also choose to develop modules by their order of importance and budget each phase as required. As each phase of the system was completed, we provided on-site support and training to bring the new module online as soon as possible.
The Oklahoma Bankers Association now has a single system that supports all of its disciplines. The data is consistent and fully integrated.
